Sylvia X. Allen, noted lawyer, civil right activist, inspirational figure, dies – Fayetteville Observer

was a prominent civil rights activist in the 1960s, but those who knew her say she leaves an even deeper legacy. In 1962, Mrs. Allen became the first black woman to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's law school.
