(LegalLaw247.com, November 21, 2011 ) Phoenix, AZ -- Attorneys in Phoenix, Arizona, sponsored a local benefit concert for the Florence Project on November 19, 2011. The concert was held at the Rhythm Room, a nightclub known for hosting live bands. The Phoenix law firm of Alcock and Associates, which handles immigration matters, was thanked and acknowledged by Hon. Noel Fidel, Esq. who serves as the Florence Projects board president.
Attorney Nicholas Alcock, the owner of Alcock and Associates, was proud to help the organization. Unlike criminal defendants, people facing deportation do not have the right to free immigration attorneys. As a result, indigent families caught in the immigration system have a very difficult time navigating the process. Without the Florence Project, many of these poor people would have no place to turn.
It is the mission statement of the Florence Project to serve indigent people who face deportation and removal. The Project helps over 200 children detained by the federal government who are alone, scared and without parental support. They also engage in community outreach, providing important information to the people who need it most.
It is easy for people to take a hard line on immigration, says attorney Alcock. However, when you go down to a detention facility and talk with young people who have lived their entire lives in the United States, it is impossible to not feel compassion. The individuals staffing the Florence Project are true humanitarian heroes. It is an honor to help them in any way possible.
The benefit concert was a rousing success. The Rhythm Room was filled and the dance floor was busy. The band, KT and The Repeat Offenders is comprised of legal professionals, including law professors, judges and attorneys. They played a mixture of rock and roll, blues and Motown. Alcock states, It was the perfect band for a great cause.
